I was working in Houston, when Kennedy was shot in Dallas in 1963. The company shut the job down after the news out of respect.His death was devastating to the country. Everything shut down. Nothing happened for the following week. People were civilized and respectful. They didn't go to work; they stayed off the streets, and were glued to the TV...

Some didn't know what was going on or could even believe that it was true.
Kennedy was young, charismatic, and cared about people and their civil rights. He was a different, extraordinary man. [As a result of his death] We lost control of our neighborhoods for the right to vote and serve equally. Some would call that progress. I know that we have to give up something in order to get something.
