He was our hope

On the day of John F. Kennedy's assassination I was in school at that time. We took the news very badly. It was hard for us to believe that the life of our president was over, before he had the chance to do good work for our people. Kennedy symbolized hope for black people. He was the way that African Americans could have their needs met.
