Meet Jasper Salmond

Jasper Salmond.jpgJasper Salmond was born during the Depression and lived in a three-room house in South Carolina without indoor plumbing or electricity. His formal education began in a one-room school with seven grades taught by one teacher. After high school, Salmond attended Benedict College, and later Columbia University Teachers College, Atlanta University, Xerox Management School, and the University of South Carolina extension services program. He began a career as a teacher in 1954 and completed his education career after serving as an assistant principal of a junior high school and principal of three elementary schools in Columbia. Salmond married his college sweetheart, Thelma, the day they graduated from college. Together they have two children, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Over the years, he has been involved as a volunteer in a large number of community organizations.

Senior citizens in our community have much to contribute to the civic dialogue. However, many seniors lack the skills and opportunities necessary to use all the tools available to them to tell their stories. The BGTIME program was developed to help bridge this divide between senior citizens and digital media. More
